Some metal materials used in electronic devices may contain minerals that fund armed groups. These are called "Conflict Minerals," and companies are required to investigate and disclose their use and procurement routes.

Target Minerals (referred to as 3TG)

The "Dodd-Frank Act Section 1502," regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), mandates the disclosure of the use and sourcing routes of the following four types of minerals:

Mineral Name Main Uses Example Regions of Origin
Tantalum (Ta) Capacitors, smartphones Countries surrounding the Democratic Republic of Congo
Tin (Sn) Solder, plating Southeast Asia, Africa
Tungsten (W) Vibration motors, tools Africa, Asia
Gold (Au) Contacts, connectors Various regions worldwide (including conflict zones)

How to Conduct a Survey — What is CMRT?

Companies request suppliers to disclose information on mineral usage and smelter data using the "Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT)."

1
Send CMRT to business partners/suppliers — Use the standard format (CMRT) to request information on minerals used and their sources.
2
Verify smelter information — Based on the responses, confirm whether the minerals pass through appropriate smelters (e.g., RMAP certified).
3
Disclose/report survey results — Based on the survey results, report and disclose to customers and regulatory authorities.
