This article introduces the features and benefits of heat shrink caps, as well as their use cases.

1. What are heat shrink caps?

Heat shrink caps are caps that shrink in size when heat is applied. While heat shrink tubing is hollow and cannot be used for sealing ends, heat shrink caps are molded with completely sealed ends, making them suitable for different applications than tubing.

There are three main manufacturing methods for heat shrink caps:

Extruding into a tube shape and then sealing the end later
Manufacturing by blow molding, expanding into a cap shapeUsed by our company — Offers high airtightness and protection.

High airtightness, insulation, and waterproofing

Our HSEC heat shrink caps are manufactured by blow molding and possess high airtightness, insulation, and waterproofing properties, making them widely used in various fields.

List of Heat Shrink Cap Applications

💧

Waterproofing

Hot melt melts to fill gaps, forming a complete waterproof seal

🛡️

Tip Protection

Can also be used for tip protection of non-electrical wiring such as metal pipes and frames

🛢️

Oil/Water Leak Prevention

Used as a temporary receptacle, placed over oil or water leak points

🔩

Corrosion Prevention

Acts as a corrosion prevention cover for metal products like bolts and nuts

Insulation

Used as a cover for closed-end terminals or as a tip insulation material in place of vinyl tape

Details of Each Application

USE2
💧

Waterproofing

The inside of this cap is coated with hot melt (adhesive) that melts with heat. When heat is applied after placing it over the object to be covered, the hot melt also melts along with the cap's shrinkage, filling the gap between the object and the cap to form a complete waterproof seal.

It can be used for waterproofing purposes by attaching it to areas where moisture may be present, both outdoors and inside equipment.

USE3
🛡️

Protection (Tip Capping)

Heat shrink caps can also be used for tip protection and capping of protrusions. They are used to protect the ends of objects other than electrical wiring, such as frames, metal pipes, and square timber.

Both the tubing and hot melt can be cleanly removed without leaving residue by cutting with a cutter knife after use.
USE4
🛢️

Oil and Water Leak Prevention

Leveraging its waterproofing function, it can be used as a temporary receptacle for oil or water leaks by placing it over the end.

🔩

Corrosion Prevention

Leveraging its waterproofing function and shape, it is also used for corrosion prevention of metal products. Specifically, it is often used by placing it over bolts and nuts.

USE6

Insulation

Polyolefin heat shrink caps also provide insulation. They can be used as covers for closed-end terminals or as tip protection and insulation material in place of vinyl tape.

Summary · Overview

Difference from tubing

Completely sealed end. Built-in hot melt adheres tightly to the covered object. Addresses applications that tubing cannot handle.

Manufacturing method

Blow molding (used by our company) achieves high airtightness and protection.

5 applications

Effective in a wide range of situations: waterproofing, tip protection, oil/water leak prevention, corrosion prevention, and insulation.

Even when heat shrink tubing is difficult to apply, heat shrink caps can be easily installed. Please also visit our product page.
